چکیده

The paper describes an unusual C beam discretization based on the finite volumes concept. The formulation is developed in the linear (linearised) case first; eventually a non-linear multi-body approach to the same problem, based on previous works [9], is presented. The formulation is generalised to the piezo-electric beam in both cases, with reference to work [10]. Some applications are outlined and the most relevant results are discussed. Advanced research on the matter will include the active control of rotor blades by means of piezoelectric devices in order to perform the control of rotor induced fuselage vibrations and eventually aeroelastic stability augmentation. At present the capability of modelling the behaviour of the dynamic system is shown [10], [4]. Some validation cases are presented, which entail the soundness of the formulation. Finally, preliminary results concerning the control of a rotor blade are presented. Further developments will be outlined.

Analysis of an Actively Twisted Rotor by Multi-Body Global Modelling

Abstract. The paper presents a procedure and the integrated tools for the aeroelastic analysis of an Active Twist helicopter Rotor (ATR). The active twisting of rotor blades is carried out by induced-strain actuators distributed into the structure of the blade. Active bre composites (AFC), made of piezoelectric bres actuated by interdigitated electrodes (IDE), are used to obtain anisotropic ind...

Semi-active Control of Wind Impact Effects by Means of Pneumatic System

1 SUMMARY Possibilities of new applications of smart devices arise with the development of new generation wind turbines. Rotor up-scaling implies a need to control dynamic characteristics of loads transferred from blades to the hub and tower. The motivation for this work was to demonstrate an approach to control dynamic reaction force resulting from a wind blow. A controllable gas spring was ch...

A Comparison of Smart Rotor Control Approaches Using Trailing Edge Flaps and Individual Pitch Control

Modern wind turbines have been steadily increasing in size, and have now become very large, with recent models boasting rotor diameters greater than 120 m. Reducing the loads experienced by the wind turbine rotor blades is one means of lowering the cost of energy of wind turbines. Wind turbines are subjected to significant and rapid fluctuating loads, which arise from a variety of sources inclu...

The Effects of Aeroelastic Deformation on the Unaugmented Stopped-Rotor Dynamics of an X-Wing Aircraft

A new design concept in the development of vertical takeoff and landing aircraft with high forward flight speed capability is that of the X-Wing. The X-Wing is a stiff, bearingless helicopter rotor system which can be stopped in flight and the blades used as two forward-swept wings and two aft-swept wings. Because of the unusual configuration in the fixed-wing mode, there is a high potential fo...
